It’s a team game for Head of Service, Gemma

There are many aspects of Gemma’s job that give her satisfaction and being part of her close-knit team is one of them.

As our Head of Service, Gemma oversees 10 engineers and three service staff.  She makes sure maintenance contracts for Contacta’s assistive listening systems in the field are set up, regular visits to clients are scheduled and installations are running smoothly.

She first joined Contacta in 2014 and after a brief period away, she returned and has never looked back.

“I love my job and I love the company,” she says.  “I started as a scheduler, organising appointments for engineers, but was always looking for more responsibility. When this became available, coming back to Contacta was a natural decision and thankfully they seemed to feel the same way!’

“I love the team.  They are really positive and everyone will put in the work that’s needed.  We’re a small team but we’re efficient!”

Gemma draws a great deal of satisfaction from ensuring delivery of the best possible outcome for clients, which range from church halls to major high street retailers with thousands of branches.  She also enjoys the family-feel and values at Contacta.

“Contacta are really good to work for.  I know I can always pick up the phone and talk to the MD, Simon, and he will listen to my ideas or what I need.”

As well as understanding assistive listening from the client’s viewpoint, and what her engineers need, Gemma knows the impact of Contacta’s products from a user’s perspective.

The care home her grandparents live in had been struggling with an off-the-shelf intercom system fitted in its COVID-safe pod.  Visits were very frustrating, and often meant sitting in silence as neither side could hear.

The home has replaced it with a Contacta window intercom which has transformed visiting for residents and their families.  That gives Gemma a huge amount of satisfaction.

“The residents have commented on the difference it’s made, and the home manager too.  It’s our products that have given people that valuable family time and I love that.”
