Hearing loops ideal for St Catherine’s Church

Hearing loops are an ideal assistive listening solution for places of worship because congregants don’t need an additional equipment to use them. Services are heard clearly with no delay to the sound.

The skills of experienced engineers like ours are vital for these buildings which are often hundreds of years old and might be listed.  This was the case at St Catherine of Siena’s church in Cocking, in West Sussex.

Parts of the grade II listed building date from the 11th Century, with later additions in the 12th, 14th and 15th Centuries, so our engineers Darren and James had to consult an architect before any work could go ahead.

Darren carried out an initial survey to determine a route for the hearing loop cabling that would ensure there wasn’t any drilling or damage to the walls or floors.

Luckily, heating ducts beneath the floor provided them with the perfect cable route around the pews.  The hearing loop driver was neatly housed in a small cabinet behind the pulpit.

Wireless lapel mics and a handheld microphone were provided to allow speakers to move freely around the church.
