17 Mar A winning installation at Guernsey FC’s new ground
Victoria Park is Guernsey’s new state-of-the-art football and events venue.
It opened in March 2025 and is the first permanent home for Guernsey Football Club. It features a world-class 3G all-weather pitch and training area, and contemporary clubhouse.
The aim was for the venue to be ‘accessible to all’ and that meant offering assistive listening for the fans who’ll be turning up to games and events.
The site’s managers initially planned to offer assistive listening in just one specific area of the stadium but our engineer, James, knew he could offer much wider coverage.
Rather than installing a hearing loop beneath one section of seating, James felt an RF system would give a better result. He plotted the known range of our RF-TXRM-865/915 transmitter onto a CAD system to show the signal coverage area within the stadium.
By locating the transmitter in the commentary box and using its high-power setting, he was able to achieve full coverage for the stadium.
“The commentary box is on the halfway line so it gave us the perfect location to offer a good signal around the stadium,” said James. “The most challenging aspect of this job was the logistics of getting all the equipment and necessary tools on the flight to such a small island!”
As well as making announcements clear to fans with hearing aids, the installation of the Contacta RF-865 system also gives them direct access to match commentary through our RF-RX1-865 receivers with inductive neckloops. Fans who don’t have hearing aids but who struggle to hear amid the noise of the crowd can use the receivers with headphones.
The venue took receipt of 24 receivers together with a charging base that keeps them all together in one place and charges them simultaneously.
“We tested the system with the site foreman whilst playing some football commentary so he could get the real feel for how it sounds,” added James. “He said the quality was very good.”
